Department of Emergency Management.

The Department of Emergency Management occasionally offers Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) certification courses and CPR certification courses. For class schedules and information, see the Emergency Medical Services page.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers free online training in the area of emergency response. Links to all free online FEMA classes can be found here.

There are four basic FEMA courses that serve as an introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS).

They are:

IS-700.A National Incident Management System, An Introduction

IS-800.B National Response Framework, An Introduction

IS-100.HE Introduction to the Incident Command System for Higher Education

IS-200.B Incident Command System for Single Resources and Initial Action

NIMS is a national directive to enhance emergency response coordination across the nation. It is the basis for ICS, which is the framework that is used to respond to emergencies.

The University of Minnesota has adopted NIMS as its method for incident management. View the policy here.
